2026 WG1 Workshop on early-phase archival acquisition protocols (Amasya)

Titled “Develop and standardise early-phase archival acquisition protocols,” this hybrid workshop addressed the transition from scattered fieldwork data and private collections to professional archival management. Contributing to WG1’s Tasks T1.3 and T1.4 (Deliverables D3 and D4), the session used the Yalıboyu Evleri (Riverfront Houses) Digital Inventory in Amasya as a case study. Discussion centred on acquisition, permissions, the protection of personal data (KVKK/GDPR), and technical archiving protocols.

The invited expert was Rita Fernandes, architect and archivist, Archives & Digital Asset Management Coordinator at BIG — Bjarke Ingels Group (Denmark) and a member of the executive board of the International Council on Archives (ICA), Section on Architectural Records. Fernandes shared her experience of archival acquisition in architectural practice under the theme “First Aid for Digital Records.” A case-study presentation of the Yalıboyu Evleri inventory followed, after which two working sessions addressed the donor handbook — legal frameworks, donor rights, and acquisition protocols for individuals — and technical standards for archive managers, including metadata integration and the handling of secondary sources.

Through a donor–archivist role-play and the technical sessions, participants from national and international institutions developed concrete proposals toward the Action’s two core deliverables: the manual for archivists (D3) and the handbook for donors (D4). Participants joined both onsite and online from across the network.
