2026 WG1 Best practices – Online Lecture

WG1 continued the online Best Practices – lectures on WG1-related topics with two presentations on the evolution of Spanish gardens and public spaces between 1925-1965, and on the Short-Term-Scientific Mission executed in the Budapest City Archives (BFL) in June.

Patricia Hernández Lamas gave a rich presentation on her work on the evolution of Spanish gardens and public spaces between 1925-1965. The documentation and archives are dispersed. Patricia’s work helped to classify the gardens, and the datasheet will be published on the Docomomo database in the near future. Patricia also studied the garden competition plans, and of garden which are lost or never built. The links between the architects, artists, painters, and nurseries can be found; the question is how to make these connections visible at the European level?

As a result, Patricia argues that landscape architecture is an inseparable part of 20th-century architecture. All the archival materials show a variety of projects, scales, and commands. The study showed an important aspect of the sensibilization of the archival institutions on LA material and how to benefit from it. The nurseries have also interesting archival materials, but they should be sensitized to archival issues.

İdil Ece Şener’s presentation refers to the STSM executed in the Budapest City Archives (BFL) in June 2026. It gives an overview of the grantee’s scientific activities related to archival management, conservation, and the digitalization process of BFL.

Idil presented her Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM) carried out at the Budapest City Archives (Budapest Főváros Levéltára – BFL, supervisor: Attila Brunner). Idil studied the archival workflow implemented at BFL (accession of archival materials, classification and arrangement of archival documents, conservation and preservation of archival materials, and digitization and long-term digital preservation. Idil also had the opportunity to visit the private archive of architect István Medgyaszay, an ongoing donation project to BFL, and do a study visit at MATE University with Katalin Takács.

As a result, the findings are expected to contribute to ConnectLAA by promoting knowledge exchange and methodological recommendations applicable to landscape architecture archives in Türkiye and across Europe.
